Where it happens
Domkhar is a village in Chumey, one of Bumthang’s four valleys alongside Choekhor, Tang and Ura.
It is a small farming community of about 60 households, whose livelihood centres on buckwheat and wheat. Its tshechu is a village festival tied to that community, not a dzong (fortress) festival.
Being there
As a small village tshechu, it usually draws a largely local and devotional audience, without the scale of Jakar Tshechu, Thimphu Tshechu or Paro Tshechu.
Chumey sits on Bhutan’s east-west highway between Trongsa and Jakar, so you reach Domkhar on the main road into Bumthang rather than up a remote side valley. Chumey is roughly 15–20 km from Jakar, Bumthang’s main town, a short drive along the highway.
